Riding with Kids
Bikes represent fun, freedom, exercise and fresh air – all important ingredients for a healthy, active childhood. As a parent you can encourage your children to be active by riding with them.
Riding with very young children
Is your child old enough to sit upright unattended and hold their head up while wearing a helmet? Then you could consider a bike seat or trailer – visit your local bike shop for more information.
Riding with older children
The best way to ensure your child rides safely is to ride with them regularly. Children under the age of 12 are allowed to ride on footpaths, and in NSW an adult can legally ride on any footpath when accompanying a child aged under 12.
Some great family rides
The City’s Sydney Rides Booklet contains some great family-focused rides that you and your little ones can do in-and-around inner-Sydney.
The ‘Sydney Park Kids Ride’ and the ‘Bay Run and Hawthorne Canal Ride’ are especially good for the whole family. To see ALL our rides and to download each ride individually go to our Inner Sydney Rides page.
